The song is the third release from the Red Clay Soundtrack

Following the releases of “Atlanta” featuring Ronald Isley & The Isley Brothers and “Sista Wives” featuring Lil Yachty, 2 Chainz returns with “Not the Same,” the third official single from the upcoming Red Clay soundtrack via Empire. This time, the multi-platinum artist collaborates with R&B artist Ne-Yo on a soulful record aligning with the emotional core of the short film Red Clay, which he co-produced with Omar Epps.

Over a soulful, laid-back beat, 2 Chainz sets the tone for growth, loss, and resilience with his vulnerable lyrics: “I miss pop tellin’ me that we was eye to eye, he died right in front of me, I still don’t know what to do,” and “Told you we are not the same, I am nothing like you / And if I talk about the pain, I overcame it… Salute!” Ne-Yo’s chorus echoes the emotional weight of the verses. Throughout the song, 2 Chainz reflects on his journey with lines like “God helped us accept things we can’t change / From trappin’ in the rain to on the stage with Wayne,” revealing the contrast from where he started to where he is now. The song ends with a strong message: “Once you get a little change, they gon’ say you changed, but you’re not supposed to stay the same,” bringing it full circle, it’s about growth, turning pain into purpose, and finding strength in the struggle.

The official music video brings the song to life through laid-back, feel-good visuals. It opens with a caterpillar that suddenly blossoms into a butterfly and glides past a front-yard barbecue, where 2 Chainz and Ne-Yo are surrounded by friends, who are dancing and playing games. As the video progresses, Ne-Yo walks into the kitchen, where 2 Chainz and his friends are playing cards, a reference to a scene in Red Clay. Throughout the video, scenes from the short film cut in and out, giving glimpses of the deeper story behind the soundtrack.

2 Chainz is a Grammy Award-winning rapper, entrepreneur, and cultural force who has shaped hip-hop culture for over two decades. Rising from Atlanta as part of Playaz Circle, he broke out as a solo artist with Based on a T.R.U. Story in 2012, earning multi-platinum hits like “No Lie,” “Birthday Song,” and “I’m Different.” With acclaimed albums including Pretty Girls Like Trap Music and Rap Or Go To The League, Chainz built a legacy of innovation, entrepreneurship, and lyrical excellence. After a historic 20-year run with Def Jam, he embraced complete creative independence in 2023. His latest project, Life Is Beautiful, released this year, with Larry June and The Alchemist, marks a new chapter of growth.
