Sean Kingston Booked Into Florida Jail After Arrest on $1M Fraud Charges

Last week, Sean Kingston was arrested in California and signed papers waving his right to fight extradition to Florida. On Sunday, he was booked into Broward County jail, according to the Associated Press. Both the singer and his mother are charged with committing more than $1 million worth of fraud in his home state. Kingston was taken into custody on May 23 after performing at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert. His mother, 61-year-old Janice Turner, was arrested the same day when the Fort Lauderdale mansion he rents was raided by Broward County Sheriff’s deputies and the Davie Police SWAT team.

According to NBC News, the warrants say that from October to March the pair allegedly stole almost $500,000 in jewelry, more than $200,000 from Bank of America, $160,000 from an Escalade dealer, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank and $86,000 from a customized beds manufacturer.

The singer is already serving a two-year probation sentence for trafficking stolen property and his mother, according to federal court records, pleaded guilty in 2006 to bank fraud for stealing over $160,000 and served nearly 1.5 years in prison.

Kingston, born Kisean Anderson, posted a message on his Instagram Story saying, “People love negative energy! I am good, and so is my mother! … My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”

The duo’s attorney Robert Rosenblatt, previously expressed confidence to news outlets, saying: “We look forward to addressing these [charges] in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother.”
