Eight emerging artists you need to hear: August 2024

Melodic techno’s west coast enthusiasts already frequent NXT, a party series that regularly hosts massive names like Mind Against, Kevin de Vries, Adriatique and Mano le Tough. The organiser behind those wild nights is MANTi, the Tehran-born producer and DJ who’s also earned a sterling reputation as one of LA’s leading underground promoters. Her trajectory in the US scene has been steady, first relocating here in 2009 and then enrolling at Point Blank Los Angeles in 2016 where she began to develop the production skills that shape her rich and hypnotic discography. MANTi’s always a machine, but 2024 has been a big year of releases even by her standards, with her most recent triumph taking the form of her evocative ‘My Way’ EP, which landed on Henri’s Automatik label last month.

“Each track on the EP is distinct, showcasing a diverse and avant-garde sound,” MANTi says of its selections, which oscillate between warped out melodies, trippy sound designs and euphoric peak-time progressions. Her reluctance to adhere to one singular style plays into her prolific output — in fact, the Iranian powerhouse has yet another project dropping via Elektrons, a shadowy three- tracker dubbed ‘Lost,’ on August 16th. Give that one a listen before this emerging star is found, well, just about everywhere. Megan Venzin
