Alicia Keys Cooked By Fans After Questioning The Purpose Of DJs Who Prepare Mixes Ahead Of Time

Alicia Keys stirred up quite the controversy this week when she called out DJs who prepare their mixes ahead of time. The internet was not happy with these comments and reacted accordingly.

DJ R-Tistic called out the “Diary” singer and claimed that her label requested that he play her song on Instagram Live, but was never paid. When people suggested he stand on business and demand his money, he stated it wasn’t an option.

“It was her label at the time, RCA,” he wrote on Instagram. “Via professional e-mail. Someone from their team offered to pay me to play a remix of one of her songs while I live streamed on IG, second week of the pandemic, when we were locked inside. I played it, and the label rep went ghost on the followup.”

DJ Quicksilva believed that Alicia Keys was simply looking to get a rise out of people. “Is this a click bait question she’s asking for attention ????” he asked. “I need to invite her out to @spinconference so she can see what DJs really do.” Another fan decided to make things personal by sharing a video of Swizz Beatz, her husband, using his chin to press buttons on his DJ equipment.

In the footage, the music sounds chaotic and dissonant. Another fan pointed out that Busta Rhymes was in the video, and his friend tapped him to look at what the producer was doing.

Needless to say, these comments did not go over well with the Hip-Hop community. “She finds a new way to show us she’s a lame every year, it’s amazing actually,” a user wrote on X, as another user referenced her infamous high note during her appearance at Usher’s Super Bowl halftime show. “They remixed that note she missed at the Superbowl,” they wrote.

“What the f**k do DJs actually do?” Keys asked in the original video. “Like, I don’t think they’re really remixing the song on the spot. I’m pretty sure they’ve like programmed it ahead of time so what are they actually doing? Are they just turning up the volume? Turning down the volume? Pressing the ‘da, da, da, da’ and then just dancing? Like, what the f**k do DJs actually do?”
