Kendrick Lamar Passes One Of Drake’s Most Impressive Chart Records

Kendrick Lamar and Drake were once friendly, though that may be tough for some fans to believe these days. The rappers have collaborated in the past and even appeared next to one another on the Billboard charts. Lately, the superstars have been feuding, and the first half of 2024 was all about the hip-hop musicians trading diss tracks.

One of the several tunes they wrote and recorded that were aimed at one another stood out among all the rest as a smash. Lamar’s “Not Like Us” was far and away the most successful of the bunch, and it’s still going strong, months after the latest flare-up for their long-simmering battle concluded. Now, the track that embarrassed Drake in a major way has helped Lamar beat one of his records.

“Not Like Us” is steady at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart this week. The single holds atop Billboard’s list of the most-consumed rap-only tracks in the country, and this latest stint on the throne is important.

Lamar’s Drake diss has now ruled the Hot Rap Songs tally for 19 nonconsecutive weeks. Now that it’s reached that figure, the cut helps the man behind it make history.

“Not Like Us” is now the single with the second-most weeks at No. 1 ever on the Hot Rap Songs chart. It’s tied for that position with Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s “Industry Baby,” which also lived in first place for 19 frames between 2021 and 2022.

Nas X also owns the all-time record with a different tune. His breakout smash “Old Town Road,” which eventually credited Billy Ray Cyrus, lived at No. 1 on the rap ranking for 20 weeks.

Last week, “Not Like Us” was tied with a handful of other fan favorites with 18 weeks earned in first place on the Hot Rap Songs chart. Lamar was matched with Missy Elliott, Lil’ Mo, Nas, Eve, and Q-Tip (“Hot Boyz”), Lil Wayne and Static Major (“Lollipop”), Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX (“Fancy”), and his rival. Drake’s “Hotline Bling” also dominated the ranking for 18 weeks—and now Lamar has passed him.

“Not Like Us” is still performing incredibly well across a number of important metrics, which all feed into where a tune lands on the Hot Rap Songs chart. There’s a very good chance that Lamar will soon match Nas X and Cyrus for the all-time record, perhaps even next week. From there, he could easily best their showing, perhaps resetting the history books.
