Hyderabad: City residents have launched a new campaign on social media platform X called ‘Ditch the DJ’. The campaign aims to raise awareness about loud music being played at festivals, particularly the heavy use of DJs.
Users are flooding the platform with videos from different festivals, showcasing the disruptive nature of blaring music and the negative impact it has on daily life, especially for the elderly.Citizens have taken to using hashtags like #DitchtheDJ, #DJfreefestivals, #KeepDJaway, #NoNoisefestival, and more, urging event organisers to reconsider their entertainment choices.
One X user, @TeamRoadSquad, posted, “How to protect our culture? Step 1… say NO to DJ Songs. #SayNoToSoundPollution.” Similarly, @Akruthik29 wrote, sharing a video of the loud music played during the Ganesh procession, “Ban DJ. Need of the hour #bagyanagar #happyhyderabad #DitchTheDJ #DJFreeFestival #SafeSoundForAll #DecibleDangers #Hyderabad #BanDJ #DJFreeCelebration.” While @vinay_vangala posted, “Let our generations know how to celebrate traditionally! #DitchTheDJ #DJFreeFestival.”
Many say festivals are meant to be a time of devotion and family gatherings, and the addition of DJs has transformed these occasions into noisy events.
Organisers of local festivals, on the other hand, have argued that DJs are often requested by the younger crowd to elevate the celebratory atmosphere. “Without music, how is one supposed to enjoy the festival?” asked a member of the Kukatpally Friends Association.
