ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – An Atlanta graffiti artist is sharing his passion with Georgians looking for a creative outlet. He is teaching graffiti classes along the Beltline.
“Right now, I am basing this wall so that when we start, all of the colors that we have will not be fighting with the background,” said graffiti artist Malcolm Turpin.
The shake of spray cans, the roll of a paintbrush on a cement wall, the creative expression that is involved have attracted Turpin to graffiti since the beginning.
In 2017, he started sharing his passion with the community. His business is called Graffiti Class ATL. People sign up online and head out for their in-person classes. There are usually two classes a month, sometimes more.
Turpin has taught more than 100 classes. People come to his class with all kinds of art backgrounds, some having never touched paint since art class in high school, and others have an art background that goes back decades. It is not about creating masterpieces as much as it is about learning and trying something new.
“It allows people to at least understand graffiti art a little bit more, if not for the respect of the artist, for the understanding of the process and what it actually took to make it,” said Turpin.
