ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Michigan dance team earned a pair of top-eight finishes in the Division IA jazz and hip-hop competition at the United Dance Association Dance Team National Championship held Friday-Sunday (Jan. 12-14) at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. The Wolverines marked a fifth-place finish in the jazz category and took eighth in hip-hop.
On Friday (Jan. 12) in jazz prelims, U-M scored a 92.9048 to finish second behind the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Maize & Blue secured a spot in the finals on Saturday (Jan. 13) with a score of 94.0635 before closing out competition in the finals with a 94.6349 to place fifth on Sunday (Jan. 14).
On Saturday, U-M slotted in eighth place in the hip-hip prelims (86.714). The Wolverines followed the next day with a score of 87.254 to hold on to the eighth-place spot.
The jazz title was taken home by Ohio State, while Minnesota finished second.
In hip-hop, U-M was the top Big Ten team in the competition in a group that was led by top-place finisher, LSU.
The results duplicate U-M’s outcome from a season ago, matching the places in both hip-hop and jazz categories.
