Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Street Art for Mankind (SAM) unveiled four murals in downtown Houston on Feb. 3, bringing the total to more than 50 murals in the downtown Big Art. Bigger Change. series. This ambitious project continues to raise awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while engaging the local community in meaningful conversations about sustainability, inclusion and social justice.

SAM is also curating a new series titled Legacies of Change, which celebrates the power of collective action in building lasting positive change. In downtown, Big Art. Bigger Change. spans more than a mile from the Hilton Americas Houston Hotel to the Historic District, and another mile from the Buffalo Bayou banks to south downtown.

The four new murals are located at:
- 1111 Main Street Garage – 1111 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002
- McIntyre’s Wall – 901 Commerce St, Houston, TX 77002
- Constable –Channel Garage Building – 426 Austin Street, TX 77002
- The Wyndham Hotel NRG – 8686 Kirby Dr, Houston, TX 77054
The murals’ themes include
- water, as a catalyst for women’s empowerment
- peace, love, and inclusivity, which is a tribute to Gandhi
- climate resilience
- supporting people with disabilities
Local and international artists – including some from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Iran, Canada, Mexico, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Ghana, Italy, Japan, Germany and Spain – painted the murals. The artworks reflect the United Nations General Assembly’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals that include gender equality, quality education, climate action, and clean water and sanitation.
