The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) is set to host Celebrate Hip Hop on February 15 and 16, offering an immersive experience into the roots and culture of hip hop. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and is included with paid museum admission, while members can attend for free.
The weekend celebration will feature interactive DJ workshops, electrifying breakdancing performances, educational talks, and film screenings, highlighting the genre’s history and global impact.
Event Highlights:

DJ & Dance Workshops – Guests can experience a turntable demonstration and learn hip hop choreography from Jukebox, a local dance studio.

Live Performances – Phoenix-based rapper-producer kJADE will take the stage, and the internationally renowned Furious Styles Crew will showcase their dance skills in an exciting battle.

Talks & Film – MIM curator Mike Silvers will discuss hip hop’s worldwide influence, while dance scholar LaTasha Barnes will explore how the genre connects communities and shapes identities. Attendees can also enjoy a screening of the classic 1983 hip hop film, Wild Style.

Photo Booth & Crafts – Guests can capture memories at a hands-free photo booth or craft their own turntable.
The event is supported by the Furious Styles Crew, the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, and the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Additional activities include a hip hop merchandise collection at the museum store and globally inspired meals available for purchase at Café Allegro.
