Three UK street artists sued luxury designer Vivienne Westwood Inc. for splashing their street art and graffiti tags onto clothes without permission, calling it an attempt to “lend credibility” and an aura of “urban cool to their apparel.”
Vivienne Westwood’s misuse of the artists’ work harms their reputations “by causing the world to think that they are corporate sellouts, willing to trade their artistic independence, legacy and credibility for a quick buck,” they wrote in to a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
