The building of the Center for Logic, Epistemology and History of Science (near Ciclo Básico II – PB) received a new intervention from the “Covid Memorial”, an initiative of the Pro-Rectory of Extension, Sports and Culture (ProEEC) of Unicamp, whose objective is to pay tribute to the victims of the pandemic and value the importance of science in society. The first graffiti was done in 2023, at the Technical College of Unicamp (Cotuca),
International graffiti artist Gustavo Nénão, responsible for the work, highlights the transformative role of art in revitalizing the environment and creating a space conducive to debate, memory and collective reflection. “While in Cotuca the arts were more separate, each telling its own story, here we bring the idea of unity. One face that represents several people. Unification generates resilience. After the pandemic, our desire is to restore the sense of community,” explained Nénão.
The location for the project was chosen strategically to reinforce this message of unity. For Renata Marangoni, architect at ProEEC and responsible for the project, the goal was to revive the concept of a meeting point. “We looked for a place that represented this point of friction, a space of social effervescence, where people connect and interact,” she explained.
The project’s art also aims to be inclusive, reaching different audiences. As Marangoni points out, “Memorial Covid” seeks to engage with everyone, from those with little access to culture to those more familiar with the artistic universe. “Our goal, as planned from the beginning, is to expand this intervention to all of the university’s campuses, including Limeira and Piracicaba,” said the architect.
