Pierce County Seeks Artists To Tackle Graffiti

Much as King County did, Pierce County is seeking artists to transform public spaces frequently targeted by graffiti and vandalism.

The pilot mural program involves projects on property owned by the country or in facilities in unincorporated areas. The projects are located at:

  • ‌Sprinker Recreation Center’s Harold E. LeMay Skate Park in the Tacoma-Parkland community.
  • Walkway barrier and retaining wall near the intersection of 152nd Street East and 22nd Avenue East in Parkland.
  • Retaining wall at the intersection of Pioneer Way and Gay Road East in the Waller neighborhood.

Budget for the projects varies from $10,000 to $75,000. Artists have until  March 31 to apply. An informational webinar about the project is at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 26. To review the full submission requirements or for webinar details, visit the Pierce County Mural Project website.

The program is funded by a one-time Pierce County Mural Projects fund and by the county’s 1% for the Arts Program.

King County in late 2023 awarded $1.13 million to more than 75 artists and organizations to beautify neighborhoods.
