Press Release

The Lourdes Central Catholic Dance Team won a state title championship at the 2025 Nebraska Cheer and Dance Competition on February 21 in the Class D Hip Hop category.

The dance team also brought home an Academic Excellence Award which recognized the team for their outstanding academic performance.

The state competition was sponsored by the Nebraska Coaches Association and is an opportunity for athletes from across the state to showcase their athletic skills in both cheerleading and dance performances.

This year’s two-day competition was held at the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island.

The Knights dance team consists of eight high school student-athletes and is coached by Michelle Ostmann and Kasey DuVahl. The team has participated in the competition for the last three years and has consistently ranked within the top four of their classification.

In 2023, the dance team was runner-up champions in Class C-2 Hop Hop and the team received 4th place in Class C-2 Hip Hop in 2024.

This year the Knights Dance Team competed against 13 other Class D NSAA member schools entered in the hip hop category.

Judges scored the hip hop routines on key characteristics including quality of movement, a grounded approach, creativity, flow, and control.

Emphasis is placed on authentic style, execution, musical interpretation, originality, and team uniformity.

The Lourdes dance team was formed in 2019 and is the newest extra-curricular activity for high school students at Lourdes Central Catholic.

The school held a pep rally on February 28 to celebrate the dance team’s state championship title.
