ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) — St. Clair Shores Police are investigating a case of racist vandalism at a local school.

According to officials with Lakeview Public Schools, school staff were informed about the graffiti — found painted on an exterior, roof level wall of Lakeview High School — Monday morning.

The school district did not specify what the graffiti said, but photos circulating on social media show hateful speech and slurs against Black people spray-painted near the top of the building.

The graffiti was removed the same morning, an internal investigation began, and the matter was turned over to local police, the district said.

In a statement, Lakeview Public Schools said its central leadership and board members were “deeply disturbed” by the discovery.

District Superintendent Karl Paulson said those responsible should face criminal charges.

“This act of hate and intolerance is unacceptable and will not be ignored. Every student and staff member in our district deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected,” Paulson said. “We are taking this matter very seriously and are committed to supporting our students and staff as we work to ensure accountability and healing. Once identified, the perpetrators of these actions will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

In response to the incident, school officials reminded students that counseling and support services are available, adding that and school leaders are “working to facilitate meaningful conversations around bias, race, and respect across all of our campuses.”

As the investigation continues, the district said it is utilizing all security and technology resources to help police find out who did this.

Anyone with information is urged to call St. Clair Shores Police at 586-445-5300.
