The Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas became the epicenter of Black culture as WaleMania celebrated its 10th anniversary. This milestone event, presented by Netflix, was hosted by the energetic Ariel “Big Swole” Hull and Kazeem Famuyide from The Ringer Wrestling. The event seamlessly blended the two worlds of hip hop and wrestling, offering fans an unforgettable night of entertainment to kick off this year’s WrestleMania 41 weekend.
Wale isn’t just one of DMV’s most prolific MCs; he’s a cultural connector who’s been blurring genre lines since the mid-2000s. Bursting onto the scene in 2005 with his Paint the Picture mixtape inspired by his love for go-go grooves, Wale quickly became a voice for the thinker, the lover, and the fly guy all at once. From backpack rap roots to Billboard bangers, he’s stacked Gold and Platinum plaques for years.
Wale’s impact hits more than just the music charts—it hits the canvas. A lifelong wrestling fan, Wale took his passion for music and the squared circle and flipped it into one of WrestleMania weekend’s most hyped traditions: WaleMania. Born in 2015, the event’s celebration of wrestling, rap, and Black excellence has become a cultural phenomenon. Now 10 years deep, WaleMania has honored legends and lit up stages with WWE icons like Big E, The New Day, Naomi, Shelton Benjamin, Jey Uso, Carmelo Hayes, and Trick Williams. It’s where bars and bodyslams meet, indie kings like Chris Bey mingle with wrestling media heads, and the energy is always on 100.
“I feel super grateful because WaleMania for as fancy as it looks, with a lot of these guys worth millions of dollars, they still come to us to be a part of the community. The fusion of hip-hop and wrestling was born through WaleMania, and it’s special to see how it’s grown over the years,” says Famuyide.
Over the past decade, WaleMania has become one of the most anticipated events during WrestleMania weekend, consistently providing a platform for the intersection of music and wrestling. The event continues to evolve, while staying true to its roots.
