OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) – The Oshkosh Police Department released video of a graffiti artist, hoping to identify them and put a stop to vandalism.

Police responded to “numerous” property damage complaints from the 1000 to 1400 blocks of Oregon St. and the 100 block of W. 7th Ave.

The graffiti was on a window, wall, street signs, light pole, a barrel, and several dumpsters this week.

Jared Miller, a new resident of Oshkosh, says that it’s unfortunate that people want to do this to something that’s owned by someone else.

“It’s just unfortunate people like want to ruin buildings and stuff like that. I mean, some of it looks cool, but at the end of the day, like, go do it somewhere it’s meant to be done at. Not on the side of someone’s building that they probably pay good money to own,” says Miller.

Local law enforcement has been working with the community to clean up the graffiti around town.

Officer Kate Mann of the Oshkosh Police Department says they take this matter very seriously.

“We want to make sure that the graffiti is stopped, or we can hold the person accountable. Also, we rely on business owners and residents to help us in removing that graffiti as well. So we do have a city ordinance that the owners have to have the graffiti removed or covered in 15 days. So, we do work with them to make sure it does get remedied, so it is removed from the community,” says Mann, the Oshkosh Police Department’s Crime Prevention/Public Affairs Officer.

Police posted a video on Facebook of a person spray-painting a dumpster in a parking lot.

Anyone who might recognize the person in the video, their clothing or their style is asked to talk with Oshkosh police at (920) 263-5700. You can also provide information anonymously through the P3 Tips mobile app or Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at (920) 231-8477.

The police department says graffiti is not only a financial burden to clean up, but it also diminishes the aesthetic integrity of the buildings in the community, and urge neighbors to report any suspicious activity.
