Appropriate public art? Fitzroy mural causes controversy

A Melbourne council has received thousands of complaints about a privately-commissioned mural in Fitzroy which depicts a bound and gagged woman.

Yarra City mayor Stephen Jolly told Sharnelle and Bob that the divisive mural had broken the rules as it was created without a permit.

“It’s not the role of the council or any form of government to be the art police, because I think that takes us down a very, very dangerous road.”
