Drake Shares Petition to Free Tory Lanez After Brutal Prison Stabbing

Drake has thrown his support behind Tory Lanez once again. This time by sharing a petition calling for the rapper’s release after he was reportedly stabbed 14 times in prison.

Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence after being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in both feet back in 2020 — a case that dominated headlines and ignited endless discourse over misogyny, violence, and accountability in hip-hop.

Now, with Lanez hospitalised after a violent attack at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on May 12, Drake took to Instagram to post a story linking out to a petition titled “Free Tory Lanez”, adding the caption: “Come home soon.”

According to reports, the incident left Lanez with both lungs collapsed and relying on a breathing apparatus. His team has since shared that he’s now breathing unassisted and “in good spirits”, despite the severity of his injuries.

The petition is one of several campaigns aimed at reducing or overturning Lanez’s sentence — despite the conviction being upheld, and despite Megan Thee Stallion herself telling the court that she still fears for her safety. She currently has a five-year restraining order against Lanez, in place until at least 2030.

Drake hasn’t exactly been subtle about his stance. He previously hinted at his support for Lanez on social media and has remained silent on the details of the shooting itself — a silence that many critics have called out over the years, especially given how public his support becomes when Lanez is back in the headlines.

Meanwhile, Lanez has reportedly attempted to record music from behind bars — a session in February was apparently cut short due to a prison riot. Because of course it was.

Drake’s post isn’t likely to shift the legal needle, but it’s a loud statement — and one that once again puts him on the opposite side of a conversation about consequences, justice, and who gets the benefit of the doubt in hip-hop.
