Republican Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna is advocating for Tory Lanez and calling for the rapper’s freedom from prison.

On Monday, she took to X to ask that California Governor Gavin Newsom pardon Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, after he was convicted of shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion back in 2020.

“I am calling on Gov. Newsom @CAgovernor to review Tory Lanez’s case and issue a pardon,” Luna wrote. “His 10-year sentence was based on flawed evidence, political pressure, and prosecutorial bias. Justice must be blind — not driven by headlines.”

Ending the X post with, “Free Tory Lanez,” she shared a petition for his release from the Caldwell Institute for Public Safety.

Her plea caught the attention of Lanez’s fans and has stirred up yet another frenzy surrounding the controversial case.

One person in support wrote, “At one point, I was on Megan Thee Stallion’s side, but I actually took time to read this case Jesus Christ, bro … it is so messy and inconsistent … and the people that are upset are the people that have never read into the case at all. They’re just getting all their information from Twitter.”

Another person supporting the call for Lanez’s release wrote, “Absolutely agree. Every case deserves a fair review, free from politics or media pressure. Equal justice should always come first.”

“Thank you for using your voice to bring an innocent man home,” a third person added.

The urgent call to action comes a week after the incarcerated music artist was stabbed 14 times by another inmate while in prison, where he is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the shooting.

He sustained multiple stab wounds, had both lungs collapse and had to be placed on a breathing apparatus. Fortunately, he began breathing again on his own.

“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the statement posted to Lanez’s official Instagram account read.

Unite the People, the nonprofit representing Lanez, also shared that newly unearthed testimony from a bodyguard could prove Lanez’s innocence in the shooting, where a man named Bradley James, who says he was the bodyguard of Meg’s former friend, Kelsey Harris, said that she admitted to being in possession of the gun during the shooting and she fired three times.
