Metro Boomin, the renowned producer behind chart-toppers like “Mask Off” and “Jumpman,” is embarking on an ambitious venture for his upcoming project. His aim is to curate a “dream” album that pays homage to the golden era of ’90s and ’00s hip hop while integrating fresh talent from today’s scene.
Sharing his aspiration on X (formerly Twitter), Metro Boomin expressed,
“It’s always been an idea and dream of mine to create a pure and authentic 90s/early 2000s album with all the OGs and some of the new artists mixed in.”
While Metro Boomin hasn’t dropped specific names, he’s shown keen interest in suggestions from his fanbase. Among the names circulating are
“T-Pain, Akon, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, T.I., Kanye West, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Eminem, and JAY-Z. “
In response, he shared a gif hinting at the possibility. He’s also teased the potential collaboration of A$AP Rocky and Cam’ron, affirming,
” This always been an idea of mine anyway so you might as well count it.”
Additionally, JID is a confirmed artist for the project, as Metro Boomin stated, “gotta be on there 4sho.”
Having collaborated with many of these artists previously, either as a producer or a featured artist, Metro Boomin’s respect for the ’90s and ’00s rap era shines through, evident in his sampling of Outkast, UGK, Three 6 Mafia, and others on his solo album, “Not All Heroes Wear Capes.”
Details regarding the release date or production commencement of Metro Boomin’s dream album remain elusive. However, he’s hinted at three album releases slated for 2024, stating, “3 at the very least.”
One of these albums could potentially be his highly anticipated joint project with Future, his longstanding collaborator of over a decade. Although Future mentioned the album is “on the way,” no specific release date has been disclosed.
Metro Boomin has also teased collaborations with Kanye West for his own album, deeming it a “dream come true,” and mentioned James Blake as another artist with whom he has more music in the works.
With Metro Boomin’s ambitious plans for 2024, fans eagerly await the unveiling of his dream album, poised to witness the convergence of iconic figures from ’90s and ’00s hip hop alongside emerging talents.
