It’s no doubt that Singapore’s street culture is alive and kicking, proven by the lineup of events that celebrate its vibrant scene. And adding on to the list is the return of Aliwal Urban Arts Festival.
Happening on January 25, 2025 at Aliwal Arts Centre, the festival is the perfect way to wrap up Singapore Art Week with a high-octane mix of art, skateboarding, live music, and everything in between.
One of the main attractions this year is the debut of Tailored: Bore & Stroke, an exhibition curated by The Block A Collective that explores the world of automotive customisation and how it influences urban art, fashion, and lifestyle. Featuring incredible works by artists like TraseOne, Metamo Industries, and Mad Rat Inc., this is a deep dive into personal expression through art. Plus, you’ll have the chance to try your hand at airbrushing and poster design with workshops led by the artists themselves.
The whole festival is a playground for creativity. Watch graffiti artists bring new murals to life right before your eyes, or join in on graffiti try-outs with Rscls, where you can spray-paint your own mark on Aliwal Arts Centre’s side alley. If you’re looking to get your steps in while learning something new, then sign up for D’tour by Rscls, a walking tour that lets you see Kampong Gelam from a totally new perspective, all for just $5.
Over at Aliwal Carpark, get into the skateboarding spirit with beginner-friendly sessions, complete with safety gear and skateboards. If you’re up for some competition, SkateSG will host a thrilling contest with obstacles co-created by the community. Don’t forget to check out the Creators Marketplace by Suave Cartel Media, where you can shop unique art pieces and enter exciting raffles.
The festival finishes strong with live DJ sets by Red Kite Music and some seriously cool dance performances curated by Singaporean dancer Darren Toh (“dt”).
