Angie Martinez will make her directorial debut with an upcoming film about the life and times of veteran DJ Clark Kent.

On Monday, August 26, The Hollywood Reporter revealed the Power 105.1 host’s plan to direct God’s Favorite DJ: The Story of DJ Clark Kent. The feature-length documentary will tell “the story of a man who spent the last four decades uninterruptedly as an architect, teacher, and unsung hero within Hip-Hop.” Martinez recruited an all-star cast of Hip-Hop’s biggest names to speak on Kent’s contributions to the culture in the documentary including JAY-Z, Questlove, DJ Khaled and plenty more.

“DJ Clark Kent is a rare gem whose influence is seen in nearly every era of Hip-Hop’s history books,” Angie told THR. “With our 50-year-old culture susceptible to outside perspective and agenda, it’s important that we spotlight the heroes who push the art form with purity and authenticity. I am honored to help share Clark’s many truths with the world.”

DJ Clark Kent has been a staple in Hip-Hop as a mixer and a producer since the late 1980s. He crafted beats for The Notorious B.I.G., Lil’ Kim, Slick Rick, Mariah Carey, Rakim, 50 Cent and more. He gained plenty of notoriety after he connected with JAY-Z and produced three songs off Hov’s debut album Reasonable Doubt including “Brooklyn’s Finest,” “Cashmere Thoughts” and “Coming of Age” featuring Memphis Bleek.

“I’m honored to have Angie Martinez directing,” Clark Kent told THR. “Her entire career has been rooted in telling stories in a beautiful and meaningful way. Angie is a true icon of Hip Hop and we are very lucky to have her guiding this project.”

As of this report, the release date for the documentary has not been revealed. Watch what The Breakfast Club had to say about Angie Martinez’s new moves below.
