Aquinnah police are investigating vandalism on several private properties and along Moshup Trail.

On Sept. 17, police discovered the words “Eat The Rich” written on the road’s stop line at the intersection of lower Moshup Trail and State Road. Police also found “WAR” written on the stop sign at the same intersection.

Police came upon the vandalism after receiving a call from select board member Tom Murphy, according to an Aquinnah police report. Mr. Murphy reported that a U.S. flag hanging from a tree outside his home had been stolen. He also reported that his vinyl porch covering had previously been sliced, and a hydrangea plant and string of outdoor lights had been cut down.

Mr. Murphy told police that his home had been vandalized earlier this year, however police wrote they were unsure if the events are connected.

Several other acts of vandalism were found at other homes and on the road.

Police also found “Every Night…” written on the stop line at the end of Old South Road.

Drawings of dollar signs were on two gate posts at the entrance of another driveway. A third homeowner reported his mailbox had been knocked off its post and is missing, and police also received a report of an expletive written on a mailbox on Moshup Trail.

Aquinnah police Chief Randhi Belain said the investigation is ongoing and there are currently no suspects. It is also not clear if the incidents were connected, he said.

Aquinnah police urge anyone with information to contact them by calling (508) 645-2313.
