SALINA, Kan. (KWCH) – World-renowned artists are in Salina this week for the third annual Boom! Salina Street Art and Mural Festival.

Artists are working across the town to transform Salina into a live outdoor art gallery. The free event allows people to see art come to life right before their eyes.

“I want to bring color, I want to bring happiness to Salina,” said Sandro Figueroa Garcia, known as Sen2 in the art community.

Sen2 is one of five artists in Salina this week. He’s using his love for graffiti and color to brighten up the streets.

“I started in 1986 in New York City in the south Bronx, and I started doing the new style, called mechenismo, mechanico,” said Sen2. “It’s more like energy, colors and shapes of graffiti.”

Sen2 is from Puerto Rico and said the opportunity to paint in Salina is a great experience.

“Right here in Salina, it’s another level,” said Sen2. “It’s at the top. This event, it’s growing up so good, a lot of people want to visit this city.”

Kyle Langley, co-organizer of Boom! Salina said anticipation for the event grows each year.

“The excitement just seems to compound each year and continues to grow,” said Langley.

Boom! Salina runs from Oct. 3 to Oct. 5. Visitors can check out the art, enjoy live music and sign up for workshops with some of the artists.
