In a recent interview with the Art of Dialogue, rapper Beanie Sigel opened up about the current state of Hip-Hop’s culture, R. Kelly, and his time with Roc-A-Fella Records.
When asked about regrets, Sigel had a clear response saying, “Hell no, I don’t regret it.” He explained that, despite the chaos in the rap industry, including deaths and legal issues, he’s proud of his path. “Look at all the rappers. They dying, they going to jail for life. Manhood is being scrutinized. Me? I don’t fit into none of that.”
Sigel also recalled his time working on The Dynasty: Roc La Familia album, recalling the buzz in the studio whenever he and Jay-Z recorded together. “It was a ritual. People would just come to the studio to watch us go in.”
The conversation then shifted to his The Solution album, particularly his controversial collaboration with R. Kelly. Sigel acknowledged that Dame Dash wasn’t happy with the record. “Dame wasn’t a big fan of that record. The minute I went over there and made that R&B record with R. Kelly, that was it for me.” He also clarified that he was unaware of the fallout between Jay-Z and R. Kelly at the time. “I was locked up, so I ain’t know nothing about that.”
In the end, Sigel stood by his work. “I thought the record was solid. It just didn’t get the attention it was supposed to.”
