Behind Bars: 5 Rappers Serving Time

As we step into the new year, several high-profile rappers have made headlines: not for their music, but for their legal troubles. From arrests to convictions, some artists are now behind bars, serving major sentences and facing serious charges.

Diddy May Face Life In Prison

In 2023, Sean “Diddy” Combs became the focus of attention after being hit with multiple lawsuits. In September, he was arrested and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation for prostitution. Combs has been denied pre-trial release and is being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center while awaiting trial, which could take months. If convicted, he faces life in prison.

Lil Durk Arrested

Lil Durk was arrested in October 2024 in connection to a murder-for-hire related to the 2022 shooting of Quando Rondo’s cousin in Los Angeles. Authorities allege that the Chicago rapper funded an attempt on Quando’s life after the death of King Von as reported by Forbes.

YNW Melly

YNW Melly has been in jail since February 2019, charged with the 2018 murders of Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams. After a mistrial in July 2023, his retrial is now scheduled for September 2025.

Tory Lanez’s 10 Year Sentence

Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023 for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in a case that gained widespread attention. The incident occurred after the two rappers had a drunken argument following a party hosted by Kylie Jenner in July 2020. Tory has consistently claimed his innocence but chose not to testify during the trial. His appeal challenges the “Erroneous Admission of Evidence” and “Prosecutorial Misconduct,” but the motion has been postponed to give the prosecution time to review it.

Megan Thee Stallion didn’t appear at the hearing for Lanez’s sentencing last year but Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta did read a pre-written statement from the rapper that day after his conviction.

Blueface Violated Probation

Blueface was sentenced to seven months in jail in January 2024 for violating probation related to a 2021 assault. Later that year, he received a four-year prison sentence for violating probation in a 2022 shooting case. In November, he was arrested again for allegedly attacking a bouncer at a California lounge. Blueface is scheduled for release in July 2025.

Fame often comes with challenges, and some rappers struggle to avoid legal troubles, leading to time behind bars. While some manage to avoid these kinds of problems, others face major consequences.
