The judge in YNW Melly‘s double-murder case is expected to rule on whether the rapper is freed on bond in the coming days.

YNW Melly Continues Request for Bond

On Tuesday (May 6), Melly appeared in court for another pre-trial hearing where his attorneys argued he should be freed on bond ahead of his September retrial after spending six years in jail fighting the case. During the hearing, Melly’s legal team proposed posting an unspecified bond that would be paid by his record label, 300 Entertainment. If granted bond, they assured the judge that Melly would be on house arrest, wear an ankle monitor and hire round-the-clock security to keep tabs on him.

The prosecution opposed the motion. They cited Melly being charged with two capital murders and also being charged with witness tampering while in jail. Judge Martin F. Fein is expected to make a ruling on the bond request in the next few days.

Melly’s recent fight for bond began last November, when he sued the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for keeping him unlawfully detained. On Nov. 18, 2024, a judge ordered the BSO to explain why Melly should not be released on bond. The issue has dragged on.
