The 13th arrondissement of Paris has two new urban works by Bordalo II. So, where can you go to admire these new relief murals by the Portuguese street artist? We tell you all about them!
There’s no shortage of urban artworks scattered across the capital’s walls. In fact, some districts are well known to street art enthusiasts. The 13th arrondissement is certainly one of them. Along metro line 6, near the Nationale and Chevaleret stations, numerous frescoes adorn the facades of buildings. And many of them have been created by street art greats such as Shepard Fairey, Seth, Inti and Add Fuel. Not far from there, on boulevard Vincent Auriol, urban art lovers can discover two new works by Bordalo II.
Renowned Portuguese street artist Bordalo II is best known for his relief murals depicting endangered animals. Made from plastic and metal waste, these works are both committed and hard-hitting, symbolizing the disastrous consequences of globalization on biodiversity. Today, his frescoes can be admired in every corner of the globe, and several can be seen in his native Portugal. They can also be seen in Miami, São Paulo, Brussels and Tallinn.
Bordalo II was in Paris in the spring of 2025 to present his new solo show ” Irréversible “, and took the opportunity to create two new murals using materials destined to be thrown away.
The first is just a stone’s throw from the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand metro station. Go to N°42 rue des Grands Moulins to discover it. For the occasion, Bordalo II, whose real name is Artur Bordalo da Silva, has created a bear cub with an endearing look.
The second mural by Bordalo II can be admired on the Berges de Seine, under the Simone de Beauvoir footbridge. This time, the Portuguese artist depicts two rhinoceroses, one of them a rhinoceron.
If you’d like to find out more about Bordalo II‘s creative and activist work, then head to the 13th arrondissement to discover his ” Irréversible ” exhibition. Organized by Galerie Mathgoth, it runs from May 24 to June 28, 2025.
