Brisbane is set to burst into a kaleidoscope of colour this May as the Brisbane Street Art Festival celebrates ten vibrant years of creativity, culture and community connection. From May 10–18, the city will be transformed into a sprawling outdoor gallery, with live mural painting, immersive exhibitions, large-scale installations and hands-on workshops taking over laneways, walls and unexpected spaces.
Northshore Brisbane will be at the heart of the Brisbane Street Art Festival action, with the riverside precinct playing host to a huge slice of the festival’s programming. The precinct’s warehouse arts space Superordinary returns as festival HQ, providing a dynamic space for live art demonstrations, artist meet-ups and interactive workshops. Throughout the festival, Northshore and parts of Brisbane will become a canvas for artists like Leans, Carley Cornelissen, Fintan Magee, Sofles, Dean Tyson, Rossella RZ and Simon Degroot to create striking new murals – including a large-scale groundwork inviting visitors to engage with art beneath their feet.
A major highlight of this year’s festival is the first-ever Brisbane edition of Meeting of Styles – a world-renowned graffiti jam where 40 local and international artists armed with spray cans will take over Superordinary from May 10–11. Part of a global network of urban art festivals, this free two-day event will unite some of the most electrifying graffiti and street artists for a jam-packed celebration of muralism, large-scale art and graffiti culture.
This Saturday May 10, Brisbane Street Art Festival will turn up the volume with a spectacular 10th Anniversary Launch Party – a huge night of live music, performances and art showcases at Superordinary. Celebrating a decade of artistic expression, the launch evening will also feature an exhibit of Paste Up Festival, a paper-based art showcase inspired by similar events hosted in London and Argentina where artists from around the world will have their works pasted across Brisbane’s walls. Known for its accessibility and DIY spirit, ‘paste up’ is one of the most democratic forms of street art – created anywhere, installed in seconds and often layered into unintentional collaborations.
