Britannia Rules! Inside my night dancing with pop princesses and hip hop royalty at the BRITs 2024 parties

But my night was far from over. In fact, it had only just begun. A little birdie had told me that at the Universal party there was an extra special performance as the clock struck midnight. So, I hotfooted it over 180 Studios. Here, the likes of Jessie Ware and Billie Piper rubbed shoulders with actors Kit Connor, of Heartstopper super-fame, and Luke Evans, who recently portrayed the Queen Mother’s former servant, William Tallon, on the West End in Backstairs Billy. Then, right on cue, the beats went quiet as the DJ announced, ‘Ladies and gentleman, we have hip hop royalty in the building’, and none other than the Who’s That Girl hitmaker, Eve, walked out onto the stage.

Dressed in head-to-toe strawberry sorbet shades from Selezza London, Roger Vivier pumps and Messika jewels (an ensemble courtesy of society stylist extraordinaire and Princess Beatrice’s go-to for event dressing, Olivia Buckingham. Herself keeping it oh-so-cool in acid wash denim and an oversized black leather jacket), the crowd went wild as those first plucky synth hits of Let Me Blow Ya Mind filled the room and she billowed out one of the most iconic lines of all time; ‘Drop ya glasses, shake your *sses!’. The energy in the room was palpable.

After the show, I headed up to Eve’s dressing room, still in awe of not just a stellar performance, but that incredible ensemble. Although a household name for two decades, it was her first time at the British awards show. ‘I love London, it’s my home [now]. I mean, I love my people in my America, but you guys have way more fun at awards shows!’ she told me. And on that fantastic outfit, ‘When Olivia showed me [the look] I first thought “It’s very pink!”, but then I thought, “When else would you do something like this?”. It’s an amazing music event and music and fashion go together so well’.

I headed back downstairs for a few more twirls on the dancefloor where ‘Sporty Spice’ Melanie C was spinning the decks, living legends all around me, before jumping in a cab and heading home for some well-earned kip, my ever-present yearning for haute looks and hedonism truly satisfied.

Until next year, BRITs!
