Cardi B & DJ Khaled Team Up for ‘Smurfs Movie Soundtrack’ Cut ‘Higher Love’: Listen

Cardi B and DJ Khaled are part of the Smurf family. While they won’t be starring in the blockbuster, the “Wish Wish” collaborators joined forces on Friday (Feb. 21) to contribute “Higher Love” to the Smurfs Movie Soundtrack.

“Higher Love” also features vocals from Desi Trill’s Natania and Subhi. The track samples Belinda Carlisle’s iconic anthem “Heaven Is a Place on Earth,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1987.

Cardi trades her typically raunchy rhymes for a more family-friendly canvas — although, it’s possible she could’ve been taking a shot at her ex Offset with her hard-hitting verse. “Everybody need love and I need some too/ Diamonds look sad ’cause each one blue,” she raps before referencing Belinda Carlisle’s hit. “Make heaven on earth, bae, I think you’re perfect/ Sweet like dessert but do you deserve it/ Think about me, I’m on your mental.”

Khaled relayed in a statement that he was “excited” to be part of this collaboration, and called his Smurfs involvement a full-circle moment, as he’s someone who grew up watching the show. “Growing up I remember always watching the Smurfs,” he said. “It feels like a full-circle moment now having children of my own who watch the Smurfs as well, and I get to be a part of the soundtrack. I’m excited to work alongside Cardi B, Natania and Subhi on ‘Higher Love’ for this monumental movie soundtrack. It’s inspiring and looking forward to sharing our music with the world.”

The Smurfs blockbuster is slated to hit theaters across the U.S. on July 18, and boasts Rihanna voicing Smurfette.

2025 is also expected to be a busy year for Cardi B and DJ Khaled. Cardi is promising the arrival of her much-delayed sophomore album, while Khaled announced his Aalam of God set.
