The highly anticipated hip-hop theater production, Syncing Ink created by playwright NSangou Njikam, is on beat to drop May 7th, 2024, at The Apollo’s newest space located in the revitalized Victoria Theater. The production will be directed by Awoye Timpo, this authentic celebration of hip-hop and Yoruba culture is choreographed by Adesola Osakalumi and features new, original music composed by producer and emcee Kyleel “Proda” Rolle. GRAMMY Award winning master percussion and Ajibilu Awo of Osogboland, Chief Ayanda Clarke serves as the spiritual consultant and cultural director, and internationally renowned stylist Ty Hunter completes the creative team in the role of costume designer.
Syncing Ink follows the coming-of-age journey of Gordon Morris, who knows deep down he’sdestined to become an emcee, a Master of the Ceremony. What he doesn’t know is if he can even rhyme. Rooted in traditional Yoruba culture, Syncing Ink asks Gordon to embrace thepower of his words… for himself, his family, and the fate of hip-hop itself. This daringly original celebration of authentic hip-hop theater asks one of the most famous and fundamental questions: “Can he kick it?” For the sake of humanity, we certainly hope he can.
The cast of the Syncing Ink production includes NSangou Njikam ,Adesola Osakalumi, Nuri Hazzard, Elisha Lawson, McKenzie Frye and two-time Tony Award nominee KaraYoung.
The design team includes Emmy-award winning scenic designer Jason Ardizzone-West, Lucille Lortel award winning lighting designer Alan C. Edwards, St. LouisTheatre Circle nominated sound designer G. Clausen, and internationally renowned stylist TyHunter as costume designer.
First preview is set for Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, and opening night is Sunday, May 19th, 2024, atThe Apollo Stages at The Victoria.
