Notes come from around Chicago outdoors and beyond.
LAST WORD (Doubled)
“The dialectics of despair and joy of fishing in Chicago: fall 2024 edition
Isaiah Jeong (Sociologyofsmallies) posting on Instagram about salmon fishing this fall on the lakefront.
“It is amazing how this river has cleaned up. I am getting reports like it is from Wisconsin.”
Dan Edwards, owner of Bridgeport Bait and Tackle, giving a fishing report on the Chicago River.
HELP REDUX
Akiko Spencer, a sports page design editor for the Sun-Times, noted my question last week about some graffiti art on Warner Bridge over the Kankakee River. “Looks like it is inspired by my favorite street artist, Banksy, specifically the piece called `Girl with Balloon,’ ” he emailed. “He is England-based and his identity remains a mystery, which is part of his art and what makes him so popular. I’m sure the work on the bridge is not his, but a fellow artist using his imagery and making it their own with the fishing pole.”
Now the mystery who is the local artist.
