Chreece Hip Hop Musical Festival returns to Indianapolis Aug. 24.

The independent musical festival, which aims to celebrate the “vibrant culture and diversity of artistry” in the Hip Hop genre, will take place in the Fountain Square Neighborhood on Aug. 24. Each year, the festival welcomes a diverse line up of local and national artists at a variety of venues to celebrate the history and culture of hip hop and the talented artists and musicians across Indianapolis and the U.S.

“It has been a beautiful process watching the growth and evolution of Chreece,” Oreo Jones, curator of the festival, said in a statement. “When we started the festival in 2015, I never would have imagined the impact it would have on the city of Indianapolis. As this year continues, we vow to honor the legacy and history of Hip-Hop culture in Indianapolis, and it’s crucial to protect and nurture the artform.”

This year, Chreece is partnering with GangGang, the creative advocacy firm that put together the I Made Rock ‘N Roll festival in May. The 2024 Chreece festival lineup includes more than 80 hip hop artists, live DJs and producers — including headlining acts Curren$y and Dem Franchize Boyz — taking the stage across eight Fountain Square, such as HI-FI Annex, HI-FI 1 indoors, White Rabbit, Square Cat Vinyl, Atomic Bowl, The Fountain Square Plaza and more.

“Chreece Festival has been at the pinnacle of Black culture, creativity, ingenuity and artistry — and is a way to highlight Indianapolis’ growing creative community,” Congressman Andre Carson said in a statement.

The festival will also pay tribute to the influential legacy of former partner Ron Miner, also known as DJ Indiana Jones, before the festival at the Tube Factory Artspace on Aug. 23. The tribute will feature the inaugural DJ Indiana Jones Memorial Battle Royale, where 16 local DJs can show off their skills in a bracket-style battle hosted by Chreece and the Vinyl destination DJ Battle League.

Chreece Festival is donating proceeds to The DJ Indiana Jones Scholarship, which aims to support youth development through funding aspiring DJs, music producers, visual artists and creators.
