Dee-1 wants all the diss tracks to stop.
Joey Bada$$ reignited his challenge against West Coast Hip-Hop, mainly Kendrick Lamar, last week after the release of his viral Red Bull Spiral freestyle. The Brooklyn rap star would receive responses from AZ Chike, Reason, and Ray Vaughn.
CJ Fly, Loaded Lux, and Jadakiss’ son JaeWon would come to Joey’s aid, but he would also come back with a couple of new devastating diss tracks in “The Finals” and “Sorry Not Sorry.”
Dee-1, a Louisiana rapper and scholar, would intervene in the beef to propose a cease-fire. Taking to social media, Dee views the entire ordeal as reckless theater—one that could spiral beyond music. He believes the disses have become a spectacle, fed by an industry eager for clicks and a fan base hungry for conflict.
Dee-1 isn’t questioning the talent of the artists involved. In fact, he praises their lyrical skill but condemns the energy behind their recent output. In his view, fans and gatekeepers alike are complicit in turning potential harm into entertainment. He also warns of the deeper implications, suggesting that Black pain is being served for White audiences under the guise of hip-hop culture.
Joey Bada$$ had impressive responses for every West Coast rapper who fired a shot, but he made it clear that his challenge was directed at the current King of Rap, Kendrick Lamar. In his Red Bull freestyle, Joey clarified that the challenge to Lamar isn’t about East vs. West, but who Is the best rapper, period.
Kendrick Lamar is on the Grand National Tour with SZA. The tour supports Lamar’s latest album, GNX. The tour has broken several records in Texas and Washington.
Meanwhile, Joey and Ray Vaughn continue trading disses that rack up hundreds of thousands of plays. Their lyrical blows are sharp, personal, and strategic. Many fans believe the ultimate aim is to pull Kendrick Lamar into the battle—a response that would shake the culture. But Dee-1 isn’t interested in spectacle. He’s watching with concern, not for bars, but for fallout.
The battle has sparked interest from artists on both sides of the coast to enter the fray. Artists such as Kai Ca$h, Glasses Malone, and Benny The Butcher have shown interest in joining the next round on social media.
Joey Bada$$ is showing no signs of slowing down as he continues to bait the final boss, Kendrick Lamar.
