Bristol Museum is set to unveil two large murals for its upcoming exhibition, offering a groundbreaking exploration of gender stories by trans artist Mister Samo.

As part of the upcoming Gender Stories exhibition, graffiti artist Mister Samo has been come been commissioned to create two large murals for Bristol Museum & Art Gallery’s Front Hall.

The two new pieces, which will be painted from May 13 to 16, will sit alongside 52 newly commissioned painting by Mister Samo, which will line the balcony overlooking the Front Hall of the iconic venue.

Mister Samo, a regular on Bristol’s art scene, is a trans artist and educator who paints large murals that celebrate trans joy.

Mister Samo said: “As a fulltime artist and transgender individual, I deeply appreciate the incredible support and encouragement I am receiving from Bristol Museum throughout my commission with them.

“Every stage of the process is being handled with mindfulness and care, featuring thoughtful, in-depth communication as the project unfolds.

“This commission is truly providing me with the opportunity to take up space as an artist, fostering growth and allowing me to expand both my creative practice and personal development.”

The Gender Stories exhibition will run in Bristol from 31 May to 12 October 2025 and feature works by Grayson Perry, David Hockney and Catherine Opie.

The ground-breaking exhibition invites visitors to delve into the multifaceted world of gender, challenging traditional binary narratives and exploring how gender intersects with sex, identity, and sexuality across cultures and history.
