The Brooklyn native, celebrated for his contributions to the genre’s golden era, died on October 24 following a private three-year battle with colon cancer. A statement on Kent’s official social media shared, “It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of the beloved Rodolfo A. Franklin, known to the world as DJ Clark Kent. Clark passed away Thursday evening surrounded by his devoted wife Kesha, daughter Kabriah, and son Antonio.”
Kent’s family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from fans, asking for privacy as they process this immense loss. “The family is grateful for everyone’s love, support, and prayers during this time and ask for privacy,” the statement continued.

Pete Rock, who had known Kent since they were teenagers, shared memories of their shared love of music. “I have known you since I was 13… DJing on the radio with you, showing me DJ routines in my house. You accomplished so much then went off to be one of Brooklyn’s finest producers ever. Rest in Power champ,” Rock said in tribute.
