Gqom DJ Lag has been awarded with a multi-platinum plaque.
The DJ, real name Lwazi Asanda Gwala, is a DJ and record producer and is regarded as one of the pioneers of gqom.
DJ Lag blends innovation with the sounds of his musical roots, offering a rich and diverse mix that stays true to his unique sound while exploring 3Step, Afro-tech, amapiano, hip hop and frill.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, DJ Lag said he is excited and proud of himself, and he hopes to get more plaques for his latest album, The Rebellion, which dropped on Wednesday.
“I didn’t expect it to do this well since it was my first time trying to fuse gqom and amapiano. It worked, so I am going to make more songs for my next EP in November or December. On the Hade Boss single I worked with K.C Driller, DJ Maphorisa, Kamo Mphela, Robot Boii, 2 Short, Da Man, Nova Boy and Charlie Magandi,” he said.
The Clermont-born DJ said he is gearing up to venture into business in Durban.
“I am building my own nightclub in Durban, opening early next year. The travel schedule has held me back in paying attention to the logistics of the club renovations, but I’m certain next year I will launch it.”
