“I’m more of an international artist as I’m not always around SA. Most of the time, I’m touring, and get overseas gigs. I only come here to visit.”

DJ Lag mentioned that being abroad makes you lose touch with Mzansi music, which might affect confidence in releasing new music.

“I do hesitate to release music because most of my music has overseas elements than South African. The song Hade Boss brought me back to my roots, and people loved it,” he added.

The Rebel, as he calls himself, released a new anticipated album on 26 June titled The Rebellion. The album features different soundtrack elements to cater to every listener’s taste.

“When you listen to this album, you can hear it gives options. Overseas crowds have their songs, and the SA crowd also has theirs. That’s why I always try to make it work and accommodate everyone who listens to my music.”

DJ Lag said he has his own fans who believe in his music. What happened with Hade Boss was the initial plan, which is why he wants to release an EP of the same style around November or December.
