DJ Paul is clearing up any misconceptions about Three 6 Mafia’s name, making it clear that it has no connection to Satanism whatsoever.
During an appearance on the Dumb Blonde Podcast this week, Paul was asked about the origins of the name, as it references the Biblical number of the beast.

“Basically Lord Infamous said it in a song and I liked that and I was like, ‘Whoa, that’s dope,’” Paul explained. “And I started sampling it and that became really popular with us, but that still wasn’t our name. I was just sampling and then it was time to form a group, I was like, ‘We should call ourselves Triple 6 Mafia,’ and everybody liked it. And then next thing I know, white fans came like that. [snapped] They flocked to us.”
Asked about if Infamous dabbled in Satanism as he claimed, Paul laughed.

“No. He was just high,” Paul said of his late nephew. “That n-gga grew up singing ‘Amazing Grace’ in church and I was playing the organ. We was in the church every Sunday in Mississippi.”
“It was just an image. It was just something that was cool. We never studied Satan or nothing like that. I don’t know nothing about all that,” he concluded.

Juicy J feels that Three 6 Mafia are the greatest group of all time, and raised an interesting point when discussing the trio’s impact a few years back.
The Memphis rap legend took to X in 2023 and noted that the group has remained one of the most sampled groups in history, demonstrating their timelessness as a collective.
“Peace & love to Three6Mafia great to witness our Music still going strong like it never lef , people across the world sampling & remaking the songs we are grateful thank you All #greatestgroupofalltime,” he wrote.
Juicy J brought up a good point as Three 6 Mafia helped pioneer the triplet flow that Migos later made popular, while also influencing some of the biggest producers today, most notably Metro Boomin.
“When I came up, one of my favorite groups and producers was Three 6 Mafia,” the Heroes & Villains hitmaker told GQ in 2018. “Back then, their beats were some of the most advanced. It had the bass. It was dark, the drum lines would switch up.

“Stuff like that just always inspired me. I guess that’s why a lot of the music I make, it sounds dark. You would think that’s the type of person I am, but it’s not. You would think I’m mad or depressed all the time, but that’s not the case at all.”
The group have also been sampled numerous times over the years, including Travis Scott’s “No Bystanders, Drake’s “No Friends in the Industry,” A$AP Rocky’s “Multiply,” Cardi B’s “Bickenhead” and ScHoolboy Q’s “Dope Dealer.”
