The documentary “No ritmo das ruas – O Hip-Hop em Sarandi”, directed by Ana Rodes (better known as Brisadiana), will premiere at Skate Plaza on April 27th at 19:30 pm. There will be a second screening on May 7th at the Praça CEU Amphitheater. Both screenings will have free admission and are recommended for ages 10 and older.
Made possible by resources from the Paulo Gustavo Law, the documentary delves into the history of hip-hop in the city of Sarandi, revealing the strength of a cultural movement that was born on the outskirts and pulsates in the center of urban life. Through interviews conducted by MC, cultural producer and philosopher Susy BO, as well as artistic performances and scenes from everyday life, the film recovers memories, reveals struggles and celebrates the achievements of artists who transform reality into art.
The work addresses topics such as mental health, social issues, economic development and the power of culture in the construction of a people, resistance, inequality and female protagonism, revealing the transformative power of hip-hop culture. To this end, important figures from the local and regional scene were interviewed, such as DJ and Street Dancer Marcelo, B-boy Dori (Donos da Rua), Street Dancer Aline Natália (Urban Style), MCs Cleiton, Pig, Drop, graffiti artist Barão, paraskatist David Soares and the organizer of Batalha da VO and also MC, Larissa Soares. These are the voices that, crossed by issues of class, race and gender, speak about the power of hip-hop as a tool of expression and resistance.
Ana Rodes is 27 years old and began working as a photographer in 2016, recording the battles of Pista Velha and Skate Plaza. From photography to audiovisual, she has built respect and partnerships with several popular culture groups in the region. In this project, she is the director, scriptwriter, camera operator 1 and editor, in addition to being the mind behind the set design and production coordination.
According to the project’s creator, Ana Rodes, the initiative arose from the lack of information available about cultural events in Sarandi, especially about Hip Hop culture. “This movement, which has been transforming the lives of many people in the city for years, deserves visibility. Through art, knowledge and collectivity, more than just an artistic expression, Hip-Hop has been a tool for social transformation, promoting joy, belonging and new paths for those who live in the outskirts of cities. This project seeks to recognize and value cultural agents who resist, teach and build paths for change in their communities,” she explains.
After the screenings, the documentary will be made available on YouTube, accessible with subtitles and audio description. There will be a sign language interpreter on the days of the event. In fact, the film’s premiere on the 27th is part of an event organized by the City of Sarandi, which will start at 15:30 pm with rhyming battles and break dancing.
