Exhibition of uprising graffiti begins at Drik

An eight-day photography and video exhibition titled Paint Your Sky, Make it Yours: Future Bangladesh in the Eyes of the Youth began at the Drik Gallery in the capital’s Panthapatha on Saturday.

Organised by the World Bank and curated by ASM Rezaur Rahman, the exhibition is featuring the recent student-led mass uprising’s graffiti created to express hopes and aspirations for a prosperous and inclusive Bangladesh.

The artworks, selected from the archive of the WB, comprise slogans and paintings, highlighting the vision and the issues the students and youths consider important for the future of the country.

The artworks have been selected from 12 districts, including Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Chattogram, Barishal, Cumilla, Rangpur, Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Bandarban.

Diverse issues, including environment pollution, rights about national minority communities, women contributions, Sundarban, unity and harmony of people, questioning the power, exploitation-free society, and youth concerns for society reflected in the artworks.  

Inaugurated by finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, the WB country director for Bangladesh and Bhutan Abdoulaye Seck delivered welcome speech at the event.

Salehuddin Ahmed said, ‘The youth have aptly expressed their thoughts through these artworks, raising awareness about responsibilities and duties.’

Mentioning that the exhibition showcases youths’ concerns and priorities for the future, Abdoulaye Seck said, ‘The WB is committed to empowering youth around the globe.’

With the same title of the exhibition, a publication was unveiled at the event.

The exhibition will end on November 30.
