Time is money and rap icon Flavor Flav knows it best, famously wearing clocks (some of which are iced out) around his neck as a bold fashion statement.
He spent his time giving a bronze clock to U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles at the MTV Music Video Awards last week.
Flavor Flav will soon clock in when he headlines the seconds in Wilmington on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Registration is required for this free event. The summit is presented by AllHipHop, Guerrilla Republik, and the Delaware Art Museum.

Who is Flavor Flav?
William Drayton, 65, is best known as the colorful clock-wearing rapper Flavor Flav from the conscious and powerhouse rap group Public Enemy, which he co-founded with Chuck D in the 1980s.
The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 and they rocked Firefly Music Festival in The Woodlands of Dover that same year. Public Enemy was controversial in their heyday for injecting activism into their music. Some of the group’s notable tunes include “Fight the Power,” “Rebel Without A Pause” and “Don’t Believe the Hype.”
“Whether we’re talking hip hop or politics, Public Enemy was revolutionary. Their blend of politics, philosophy and rap changed the game for the better,” the band’s bio reads on the Rock Hall of Fame’s website.
Flavor Flav reignited his fame by doing reality TV. He’s starred in several shows like “Flavor of Love,” “Strange Love” and “The Surreal Life.”
Flavor Flav gives Jordan Chiles a clock
When Flavor Flav attended the VMAs on Wednesday, Sept. 11, he gifted a bronze clock to U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles. The clock symbolizes the bronze medal stripped from the gymnast at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Why did Jordan Chiles lose Olympic medal?
According to the USA Today, following her performance at the Paris Olympics, Chiles was moved into third place after challenging the judges’ score of one of the elements in her routine, then bumped back down to fifth, days later after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled the challenge was submitted four seconds too late.
The International Olympic Committee has since asked Chiles to return her bronze medal and awarded one to Ana Barbosu of Romania, the gymnast who was elevated to third after the CAS ruling.
On Monday, Sept. 16, Chiles’ attorneys announced that they have filed a formal appeal with the Swiss Federal Tribunal over the results in the women’s floor exercise final at the 2024 Paris Olympics − asking the tribunal to overturn an earlier ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport that effectively knocked Chiles off the podium, USA Today reported.
What is the Hip Hop Cultural Summit in Delaware?
After attracting over 1,000 guests to last year’s inaugural summit, this second event aims to be bigger and better and celebrate hip-hop in various ways. This includes a competitive series of battles involving emcee, DJ, graffiti and breakdancing, judged by experts.
The Summit’s “Hip Hop with a Purpose” offers three exhibits that include T. Eric Monroe’s storytelling of hip-hop through photography. Another exhibit is from the Victrola Museum that spotlights the invention of the record player. There’s also a showcase of local visual artists examining the theme “Art of Activism and Social Justice.”
Each exhibit will be on display through Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025.
Celebrity panel discussions will delve into how hip-hop drives social change and empowers communities through diverse artistic expressions and shared knowledge.

Confirmed guests for the summit include:
- Chuck Creekmur is the co-founder of AllHipHop and he’ll facilitate a Q&A interview with Flavor Flav.
- Hakim Green of Channel Live is the co-founder of 24 Hours of Peace. Green will share insights on hip-hop’s influence on education and activism.
- Pam Africa is a renowned figure in social justice movements. Africa will discuss the intersection of activism and hip-hop.
- Yasser Arafat Payne is a respected University of Delaware scholar who will explore the academic and societal impact of hip-hop culture.

Hip-hop summit organizer: ‘Legends like Flavor Flav’
Summit organizers are excited for another chance to educate the community about hip-hop and honor the culture.
“Hip Hop began with a message of peace and advocacy for community needs through its elements, and it has always belonged to the people,” Iz Balleto, Delaware Art Museum’s community engagement specialist and Guerrilla Republik co-founder, said in a statement.
The summit also is an opportunity to bring a legend from Public Enemy.
“From legends like Flavor Flav to thought leaders like Hakim Green, this event will truly showcase the power of Hip Hop in driving social change,” Greg “Grouchy Greg” Watkins, AllHipHop co-founder, said in a statement.
