THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — The corner is the canvas at a busy intersection in the Bronx.
Artists are adding some new style to the old building’s inside and exterior along Hunts Point Avenue.
The painting might have been considered more of a criminal act. Street art and murals are now vibrant parts of city neighborhoods.
Bronxlandia was created a few years ago at what was originally a century-old train station.
A gallery show curated by Outlaw Arts will feature more than a dozen artists. It begins Friday night, and visitors are welcome to stop on weekends.
“The best of what New York has to offer is a diversity of artists,” said curator Rob Aloia.
Major Carter is a neighbor and local business owner.
She has developed the property as an event space.
“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished and have paved the way. We show folks within the community that we can be a part of what happens,” she said.
Indie 184 is a painting on the gates.
“In true graffiti form, I’ll write my name. This is the roots of hip-hop and graffiti,” she said.
Tkid 170 makes his mark and remembers how it is on this block.
“I’m honored to do it here. The Bronx is coming alive,” he said.
Metro-North is adding four new stations along the New Haven Line. The tracks are directly under Bronxlandia. One of the new station stops is being built nearby. The major railroad project is set to open in 2027.
The Bronx Greenway will also connect to the area. The Bruckner Expressway is undergoing major remodeling.
The show is open to the public at Bronxlandia and will feature new works.
