RADIUM Presents, TURFinc, and Off the Grid will present the wheelchair-accessible event, sponsored by a public art grant from the City of Alameda. Dedicated kids’ activities will include a bubble zone, face painting, and interactive arts experiences.

Turf dancing—short for Taking Up Room on the Floor—is a dynamic street dance style that originated in Oakland and is heavily influenced by boogaloo, another uniquely Oakland form of dance from the 1970s. This expressive dance combines elements of mime, gliding, and storytelling through movement, often characterized by fluid footwork, contortionist-like poses, and improvised choreography.

The Together in Motion Festival arrives at an exciting time for street dance culture, as breaking (breakdancing) makes its historic debut this summer at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This milestone elevates hip-hop dance forms to the global stage, recognizing their athleticism, artistry, and cultural significance.

Together in Motion reflects the spirit of inclusivity and innovation that has long been at the heart of hip-hop culture, now gaining worldwide recognition. Johnny5 of TURFinc, a 20-year veteran of the Bay Area dance scene, curated the event.

“Dance has had a powerful influence on my life which is why I started TURFinc to give back and share the art form with the community,” Johnny5 said. The festival will feature top Bay Area dancers specializing in various street dance forms as both judges and performers including Intricate and Krow, both of whom recently battled it out for the title King of Turf.

Together in Motion is also a treat for the tastebuds with bites and brews. Off the Grid, the bay area’s most prolific Food Truck experience company, has curated a selection of diverse local food creators.  From fried chicken to fresh ceviche, these top-tier food trucks will be making a special stop in Alameda for the event, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to savor some of the Bay’s most beloved mobile eateries, including 3 Brothers Kitchen (Asian fusion), Cielito Lindo Mexican Street Kitchen (Mexican), Kabob Trolley (Afghan), Wonder Philly (Cheesesteak), Chick n’ BrosCousins Maine Lobster (Seafood), Los Kuyas (Filipino), and Yo Soy Ceviche (Peruvian). All this is in addition to a cash bar serving local craft brews from Alameda Point.
