From hip-hop to ballet, Dance Fest offers big variety for a low price

Chicago Dance Crash will perform Aug. 3 as part of No Studios Dance Fest at the Marcus Performing Arts Center.

Nō Studios Dance Fest brings groups from Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago here Aug. 3 for outdoor performances on the grounds of the Marcus Performing Arts Center, 929 N. Water St.

There’s both a free performance for youth at 5:30 p.m. on the Marcus lawn, then a modestly priced ticketed concert at 6:30 p.m. in the Marcus Center’s outdoor Peck Pavilion.

Both programs offer an unusual chance to experience a variety of dance approaches in a single event.

Scheduled performers for the 6:30 p.m. concert include hip-hop influenced Chicago Dance Crash, contemporary dance ensemble Visceral Dance Chicago, the wide-ranging Danceworks Performance MKE, Water Street Dance Milwaukee, African- and Caribbean-oriented Ko-Thi Dance Company, local Latin dance group Salsabrositas and Madison Ballet. Dance Kaleidoscope of Indianapolis and southeastern Wisconsin’s Nova Linea are also on the bill.

The lineup was curated by Morgan Williams, founder of Water Street Dance Milwaukee. Danni Gee, director of programming for The Joyce Theater in New York, will emcee.
