ATLANTA — The family of Anthony Leonard Platt, known to fans as DJ Unk, has announced funeral services following his unexpected passing on January 24 at the age of 43.
The service is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, at 11 a.m. at Siloam Church International.
DJ Unk rose to prominence in the mid-2000s with hits like “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” which became anthems in the Atlanta hip-hop scene and beyond. His debut album, “Beat’n Down Yo Block!” released in 2006, featured these chart-topping tracks, propelling him to national fame. “Walk It Out” reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, and its remix featured notable artists such as André 3000.
Born in Atlanta, DJ Unk began his career as a DJ before transitioning into rapping. He was signed to Big Oomp Records in 2000, where he developed his signature style that blended catchy hooks with danceable beats. His music not only dominated airwaves but also inspired dance trends, cementing his place in hip-hop culture.
According to reports from TMZ and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, DJ Unk’s wife, Sherkita Long-Platt, revealed that he died of a heart attack in his sleep. She dispelled other claims circulating online about his death, emphasizing the suddenness of his passing.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Long-Platt expressed her grief, stating, “Our life will never be the same.” She requested privacy for the family during this difficult time.
