Galena Center for the Arts seeks art for exhibits

The Galena Center for the Arts, 971 Gear Street, is calling for art for its upcoming exhibits, which open on Friday, Jan. 17, and run through Sunday, Feb. 23.

The Special Exhibit space seeks works following the theme of “Street Art,” which originated and evolved from graffiti, which was a way for disenfranchised people to express themselves in public places. Street art provokes thought and challenges the status quo, bringing attention to the current social and political issues – creating art for art’s sake as it exists outside of the commercial art world.

The Main Gallery is open to whatever the artist chooses to submit.

All art submitted needs to be available for purchase. Drop off dates are Sunday, Jan. 12, from 1-4 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 13 from noon to 2 p.m.

The center requests that all those who submit art have a current Center membership, which can be obtained at http://www.galenacenterforthearts.org/membership.aspx

If interested in exhibiting, please contact Sandra Evans at gallerymanager@galenacenterforthearts.com for more details and guidelines.
