City of Phoenix working to remove graffiti
It’s graffiti-free month, and the City of Phoenix is doing its part to rid the city of the unauthorized paintings. FOX 10’s Danielle Miller reports.
PHOENIX – The City of Phoenix is doing its part to rid the city of graffiti.
Per the city’s website, its Neighborhood Services Department works to clean up the unauthorized paintings, and we recently saw the crews out in action.
Department monitors graffiti across the city
Regginald High with Phoenix’s Neighborhood Services Department was out with his crew on the morning of Feb. 7 to remove graffiti from block walls.
What He Said:
“It’s pretty widespread, but we have at least 15 trucks,” said High. “So we are out there, 10-hour shifts, seven days, so we’re out here throughout the city, remove this graffiti as fast as possible so it won’t get out of hand.”
The team canvases areas and handles complaints from residents, and removing it is typically quick, as the trucks are fully equipped to make the process seamless.
“Go out to an area, see the graffiti, figure out what color to paint it, and we have a number of colors of paint on a vehicle, and we have a spray.” said High. “We have a pressure washer on a vehicle, as well as a paint sprayer.”
By the numbers:
City of Phoenix officials said that in 2023, the Neighborhood Services Department used over 10,000 gallons of paint, and cleaned up more than 51,000 graffiti sites within the city.
“Each day, they can efficiently cover or eliminate as many as 200 graffiti sites, without charging any fees to residents or businesses,” read a portion of th website.
